Mission Builders

If you have a heart for missions and especially Youth With A Mission (YWAM) come and join in our short-term volunteer program called Mission Builders, assisting with everything from carpentry and maintenance to food services, grounds keeping and secretarial work.

The minimum age requirement is 18 years unless accompanying a parent. So if you are in good health, and able to volunteer 1 week to three months of your time, come to Costa Rica and become a Mission Builder.

As a Mission Builder volunteer you will usually wakeup early for breakfast and begin your work day about 8 a.m. and end it about 5 p.m. Mission Builders serve on various parts of the campus – working in offices, doing construction, preparing meals, doing maintenance, landscaping and many other tasks.  Your job as a Mission Builder will be decided according to the needs of the base at the time you arrive. We strive to use you in your area of expertise and interest, but it is not always possible.  Please come with an open heart and a willingness to serve in whatever capacity you are needed.

We work eight (8) hours per day, Monday through Friday. Each area may have work hours adjusted to its particular needs. As part of your work day Mission Builders are required to attend: Base worship and intercession Monday and Wednesday mornings and Friday morning staff meeting. Every other week on Wednesday we also have “family night”. As well as these times there will be many other opportunities for you to interact with our staff and students at meal times, evenings and working along side them.  Your weekends are free for resting, exploring and attending the church of your choice.

Another objective of the program is to inspire involvement in missions and to encourage God’s direction for further involvement in missions. With this in mind we also allow time for participants to be exposed to other areas of the ministry of Youth with a Mission San Jose.

If you are interested in coming to serve with us please go to forms on the home page and download a staff application you can fill it out and e-mail it to us at   This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it   We will also need one pastoral reference. This could also be filled out by a small group or bible study leader.

The Cost for room and board is $12.00 a day per person or if staying longer than 3 weeks $225.00 a month. There is also a fee for airport pickup and drop off. FYI Costa Rica charges a $25.00 exit tax at the airport when leaving the country.

Please wait until after you have received your acceptance letter to purchase a round-trip ticket to San Juan International airport San Jose CR (airport code SJO).
